Most of us, during our professional careers are like the blind men in the proverbial story. We know too well what we are directly responsible for sales, marketing, manufacturing and so on. We `refuse` to learn more than what we have to do. For example: how many of us take interest in exposing ourselves to accounts and finance. In my own case I was very comfortable doing marketing of tractors but it dawned on me to get into sales whereby I requested for a field posting and got posted to Bhopal. Where I learnt a lot. During my 33 years I had seven assignments including six years as Chief Administrator of Escorts Heart Institute and Research Center. In every assignment I learnt more as well as different aspects of business management resulting in getting a `helicopter` view of the company.
